  • 6 Career-Killing Facebook Mistakes
    A Facebook Mistake

We're advocates for using social media for business. We're on Facebook as a company (become a fan) and as individuals.

Unfortunately, too many people don't understand that telling your Facebook "friend" a detail about your life isn't the same as privately mentioning something to your best friend in college.

    Think You Know Fraud?
    Thief!

Do you think you're smart enough to know potential fraud when you see it?

The National Consumers League offers 6 free online tests of your fraud knowledge. They'll let you know if you are at risk for falling for everything from a foreign business scheme to a scheming suitor.

    No, Paying Taxes Isn't Voluntary
    The gift of tax money

Wishful thinking is powerful motivation. And, the Internal Revenue Services has heard almost every possible claim that wishful thinking tax payers have devised to avoid sending in what's legally required.

Unfortunately, the Internet gives perpetual life to frivolous tax arguments. Have you heard that getting paid Federal Reserve Notes is not income? That a Federal tax lien is invalid because it wasn't signed by the Secretary of the Treasury? What contention have you heard?

Find out that the IRS says about Uncle Elmore's sure-fire way to pay $0 in taxes. And, read to the end of this PDF so you can tell Uncle Elmore what the penalty is for making frivolous claims!

The More You Ask for the Less You Get
    Fake Survey

Are you using your web site to build a list of prospects? Maybe you're offering them a report or a gift, if they tell you who they are.

You want your web site to be a 24-hour-a-day worker for your marketing and sales effort. But, if you ask too many questions, you're going to scare away the quarry.

    3 Keys to Low-Budget Marketing
    Charles Sterck, CPA

If you don't get in front of people and explain your business' unique value proposition, then your chances of selling will be restricted. You'll only be talking to current customers or accidental passersby.

Marketing is especially needed in a bad economy.

We share 3 tactics with you in the link below, and there's four low-budget marketing techniques on the page, too!

Use these ideas to start — or beef up — your business' marketing. And, contact us for help with your overall growth strategy.

    New Use Tax Filing

Starting this year, the State of California is mandating that all service businesses with gross income of more than $100,000 register and file for Use Tax compliance. Unless your business already has a sale tax permit or it grossed less than $100,000 in 2009, this new law applies to you!

This has the potential to have significant impact (or at least pain) for your business!

You must file a Use Tax Return on or before April 15, 2010 and pay use tax on any out-of-state purchases during 2009.

We have outlined more information in a letter to clients which we mailed out last week. Check out this new April 15th State tax filing requirement!
