  • 10 Places NOT to use your Debit Card
    Debit Cards Should Go Everywhere!

A debit card takes money directly from your checking account so you're less likely to overspend, and the cards with the VISA and MasterCard logos are much more widely accepted than checks.

But, these convenient, budget-watching cards shouldn't be used all the time. They're the wrong plastic for some situations.

    6 Years in a Row!
    Diamond Certified CPA Charles Sterck

Thank you to our clients who gave Sterck Kulik O'Neill high ratings and qualified us for the Diamond Certified quality rating for the sixth straight year. We appreciate your vote of confidence and comments.

American Ratings Corporation, the independent survey company, celebrated our achievement by taking a video of partners Charles and Geoff talking about our approach to helping clients.

We would also like those of you who weren't contacted by American Ratings Corporation to have an opportunity to give us your opinions and comments on our service.

IRS Announces 2010 Dirty Dozen Tax Scams
    Tax Scammer?

The annual announcement of the Internal Revenue Service's Dirty Dozen Tax Scams is a cautionary tale told in tasteful bureaucratic language by the government: it's gallows humor for accountants.

Unfortunately, people who fall for these scams can loose a lot of money. If they swallow the nonsense fed to them, they might even wind up going to jail.

    Cold Calling Boot Camp
    Cold Caller

Cold calling is the favorite activity of few people. It remains a top sales tool only because it works!

Make cold calling work better for your business by clicking on Inc.Com's online boot camp. You can read the basics or drill down for details on tips and techniques, setting up a schedule, learning how to communicate value, heading off objections, and more!

    Who Gets The Baton?
    Geoffrey Kulik, CPA

The touchiest questions for many of our clients are who is going to take over the business from the founders... and when!

Usually Mom and Dad assume that the children will take the business over when the older generation is ready to retire.

But, is this assumption true for your business? Is the next generation the best entrepreneurial owners?

Learn more about transition ideas for family businesses in the link below. Then, contact us for a confidential talk about your business and your succession plans.

    New Use Tax Filing

Starting this year, the State of California is mandating that all service businesses with gross income of more than $100,000 register and file for Use Tax compliance. Unless your business already has a sale tax permit or it grossed less than $100,000 in 2009, this new law applies to you!

This has the potential to have significant impact (or at least pain) for your business!

You must file a Use Tax Return on or before April 15, 2010 and pay use tax on any out-of-state purchases during 2009.

We have outlined more information in a letter to clients which we mailed out last week. Check out this new April 15th State tax filing requirement!
