  • How Training Employees Can Boost Sales
    Business training meeting

Entrepreneur Janine Popick was horrified to hear a new salesperson promise a potential client features that her company's software didn't have.

Her business had grown, but she hadn't developed a way to pass on the product knowledge that the original team had acquired from hands-on experience.

Now all of the staff have formal training to learn about the product, company history, and corporate culture. The benefits have shown in her business' sales numbers.

10 Important Facts for First-Time Homebuyers
    Home Buyers

Earlier this month Congress extended the first-time home buyer tax credit. Under the new law, an eligible taxpayer who buys a principal residence on or before April 30, 2010 and closes on the home by June 30, 2010 may receive a credit of up to $8,000.

The original program is credited for helping to kick-start the housing market, but it was set to end December 1st. This new one extends and expands the tax break for many people.

There are limitations on who's eligible and what homes fit into the program's restrictions. Here are 10 points to check.

Have you' ever muttered a self-righteous, "I don't have time for things like Twitter. I have important things to do. I don't care about where my friends are drinking their coffee."

Never think Twitter could impact your adult life?

The truth is, Twitter is not just for children anymore.

Worried about losing your job? Want the peace of mind of knowing your credit card debt will be erased if you lose your job or became disabled?

That's the pitch behind debt cancellation, a service offered by many credit card issuers and retailers.

But, at best it is an expensive product whose costs are often hidden by salespeople.

    The CPA-Approved Holiday Gift

I know a lot of families are in need of help this holiday season -- they simply do not have the food they need to get through the day.

But, I cannot tell if the person at the street corner who's asking for change is in need, is looking for drug money, or if they're a kid panhandling for a lark.

So, our family gives money to the San Francisco Food Bank. This charity knows how to deliver food to people who need it. They score well on Network for Good who reports that less than 1% of the money donated goes to administrative expenses.

Every $1 donated to the Food Bank results in $9 of food being delivered to a hungry person. They both serve individuals and provide food to charities who do things like house and feed homeless men as part of the Mayor's Winter Shelter program.

If you're looking for the perfect gift for the holiday season, a donation to the Food Bank is one your CPA approves of.
